Best One Week Route

A practical one-week Portugal route is three nights in Lisbon, two nights in Porto, and two nights in the Algarve if beach time matters. If you prefer cities and food, skip the Algarve and add more time to Lisbon, Porto, and nearby day trips.

Lisbon Base

Lisbon is hilly, atmospheric, and ideal for a first base. Choose accommodation by walking comfort and transit access. Use days for viewpoints, neighborhoods, food, tiles, riverside walks, and a possible Sintra or Cascais day.

Porto Contrast

Porto is smaller and more compact, with river views, wine cellars, bridges, old streets, and access to the Douro Valley. It pairs well with Lisbon because it changes the mood without making logistics too hard.

Algarve Decision

The Algarve is worth it if beaches and cliffs are central to the trip. It is less essential for a city-focused first Portugal route. If you add it, avoid changing towns too often and plan transport before booking.
